MARKING THE MILESTONES OF JEWISH LIFE
People look to their congregation to usher them through the life cycle process:
Baby-Naming and Brit Tikkun
Bar/Bat Mitzvah for youth and adults
Wedding
Funeral (Cemetery Section available - Grave Lots, Cremation Spaces; intermarrieds may be interred together)
Unveiling & Memorial Dedication
Conversion/Jewish Commitment*
We offer Jewish, intercultural and same-sex weddings, as well as baby-namings, humanistic brit, bar/bat mitzvot, funerals, memorials, unveilings, memorial dedications, adoptions or Jewish commitment ceremonies. The location of these events is your choice.
Ceremonial leadership is provided by Rabbis or Madrikhim ordained/certified by the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism. They are licensed by the Province of Ontario to perform marriages.
Individual Bar/Bat Mitzvah studies and ceremonies for both youth and adults are offered under the guidance of Rabbi Eva Goldfinger or Madrikha Karen Levy.
*A comprehensive 60-hour course leading toward adult bar/bat mitvah or Humanistic Jewish conversion is offered by Rabbi Goldfinger. Topics include: Jewish Ideas, Practices and Movements through the Ages; Rhythms of Jewish Life--Evolution of Festivals & Life Cycle Events; History of the Jewish People; Jewish Literature from Pre-Biblical to Contemporary Writings; Jewish Culture through the Ages. ORAYNU's SECULAR JEWISH CEMETERY SECTION
Oraynu now has its own section at Elgin Mills, a non-denominational cemetery operated by the Mount Pleasant Group. It is located in Richmond Hill, on Elgin Mills Rd. just w. of Highway 404. Along with our members and Jewish non-members, intermarried couples will be able to be buried together. The burial of cremated remains in an attractive granite curbed garden will also be permitted in our identifiably-Jewish section. We welcome inquiries from the public. Call 416-385-3910 for more information on the cemetery.
