Providing additional Philosophical and Ceremonial Guidance
Lisa Wright, Madrikha
Licensed to perform marriages
n Lisa discovered Humanistic Judaism about twenty years ago and became involved, passionate and committed to her Jewish community. She has a varied background as a professional social worker, as a publicist and as the owner of a business that runs workshops on manners and social skills.
n Lisa first began taking courses on Humanistic Judaism (from the International Institute for Humanistic Judaism) as adult education but found the program so compelling, she completed her training as a certified Madrikha. Her involvement at Oraynu has ranged from being President of the Board, acting as Program Director, serving as a Board member, and many years on the School Committee.
n Lisa and Madrikha Karen Levy run regular focused workshops on Basic Ideas of Humanistic Judaism, Jewish Holidays and Calendar and Life Cycle Events. The 2-hour workshops are geared for people who want an understanding of what Oraynu members believe and what they do as Humanistic Jews.
n Lisa has collaborated on writing/editing High Holiday observances for Oraynu and is co-author, with Sandi Horwitz and Barry Olshen, of Roots and Branches: A Humanist Haggadah for Passover. For more information, click here.
n Lisa and her husband Brian, also a former President of Oraynu, have three children, Jon, Danny and Lauren, all graduates of our Children's School.
